BE… kind, happy, silly, patient, unique

I recently saw the neatest bulletin board on pinterest. There were lots of different versions …

I decided to make my own. Here's how it turned out!

I believe this idea originally came from Entirely Elementary…School Counseling Blog. If you check out her blog she has a free copy of the bulletin board she made! Which is amazing looking. I did not find her blog until after I made my own, so I decided to share my version too.

You can find it on TPT for free HERE!

All I did was print the words in black ink, glue to colored card stock paper, and laminate. It was super easy and fun to make!

Currently August

Well everyone…it's August! Here's my currently for this month.

Listening: I have watched almost TEN seasons of Grey's Anatomy this summer. Talk about binge watching…. I'm pretty sure I could perform open heart surgery tomorrow if I needed to.

Loving: I love my new job! It's a little bittersweet, because I am no longer a classroom teacher. Instead I am the Director of Enrichment and After Care. It's a new adventure for me!

Thinking: I worked all summer! Boooo!!! Between camp and starting my new job, I didn't really have a summer.

Wanting: I REALLY want some new back to school clothes! I'm thinking the LOFT is calling my name.

Needing: I really need to read more. My nightstand has three books just waiting to be read, but instead I have been to busy facebooking, instagraming, twittering, blogging, etc…. (this post didn't help either!)

First Day: Yep, I've already started. I'm learning all about my new job before the kiddos return on August 13th.

Wonder Ebook Club & Giveaway!

Want a chance to win a Wonder  novel study???
Courtney at Ramona Recommends had this awesome idea to create an eBook club! This month's book is one of my absolute favorite books…..Wonder! I fell in love with it when I first read it. So, I decided to read it again ...and again to create a novel study for my students. When I found out that this book had been chosen for Courtney's book club, I decided that I wanted to share my novel study with one lucky participant! (I guess you don't really have to participate in the book club to win, but it would be GREAT if you did!)

For more information about the eBook club go to Ramona Recommends blog.

July Currently

Listening: I can't live with at least one cup of coffee in the morning

Loving: I love that it is summer! But I'm actually working this summer. My husband and I moved from NC to GA. I didn't think I would get a teaching job quickly so I found a job as a director at a camp. Well sure enough…I got a full time job quickly! Now I'm sort of regretting that I am doing this camp, because….I want my summer back!! But I'm going to have a good attitude about it. I love being with the kiddos!

Thinking: I really do get to see my husband today after one LONG month! He's in the Army and he leaves a lot, so I'm pretty used to it. But this time has been a little more difficult. My husband had already been living in GA for 3 weeks when I finally joined him as soon as school got on on June 4th. On June 5th he left for TDY (temporary duty) in Fort Knox. Soooooo we got one night together in our new house in this new city. Good news is…I'm flying to Louisville TODAY to see him for the holiday. After I get back, he will be home in 2 short weeks. Home for good! Well until the next TDY, or deployment, or training (whatever they choose to call it)…….

Wanting: A new book. I am just pages away from finishing Gone Girl.  I'm seriously hooked, but I'm saving the last of it to read on the plane today. This book is AH-MAZING! Seriously…read it if you haven't. I'm wanting a new book now. I think I'll try another one by Gillian Flynn because this one was so good. I also need to read The Maze Runner! Any other suggestions?!

Needing: Yeah, check out my blog. Oh wait there's nothing there. I seriously don't blog except for the occasional currently and very, very occasional real blog post. I'll get better.

4th Plans: I think this was explained above! I can't wait to see my husband who (by the way) proposed to me 2 years ago on the 4th in Philadelphia. The whole city of Philadelphia was so excited that we celebrated with fire works ; ) We were married just 4 short months later.

February Currently

Here it is…my Currently for the month of February.

Loving: I'm loving the book Elvis and the Underdogs. I blogged about it HERE!

Thinking: Yep, I live in the south. Yep, we got snow. AND Yep, we all freaked out! I'm over it..

Wanting: Is anyone else thinking about going to the TPT conference in Las Vegas? I am and I'm super excited! I can't wait for more details to be released this month.  I'm really wanting to plan a vacay!

Needing: I really need to run… my mom got me a fitbit for my birthday (I turned 28 a few days ago!) and it constantly reminds me that I need to run. Like everyday…it's telling me I need to run.

And My 2 Truths and a Fib:
FIB I have two miniature dachshunds and a cat named Sally.  I only have one miniature dachshund, named Ramsey. (The one I was listening to snore!) I really wish I had another one, because the saying is true: Dachshunds are like potato chips, you can't just have one. I also don't have a cat. I also don't wantt one. I grew up with a cat named Sally. She was beautiful, but I have a terrible allergy to cats now.
Truth: I won a State Championship in golf in high school. Yep, that's true. I shot a 99. If you know anything about golf at all…you know that's pretty terrible. Girls didn't really play golf in Georgia when I was in high school. I also had a girl on my team who shot in the 70's. Average our two scores…and we won!
Truth: My husband is a captain in the U.S. Army.  He is! I love him and I'm proud of him : )

Enjoy your February!

If you read and enjoyed the book Wonder, then you will love Elvis and the Underdogs by Jenny Lee.
Both books share a very similar theme…don't pick on the underdog! Lee has a comical style of writing that will entertain any kid….even the most reluctant reader.

The story is about a 4th grade boy named Benji who breaks a record every year for the most days of school missed, because he is always in the hospital. Benji has a number of things wrong with him, including a serious allergy to walnuts, a terrible habit of fainting when he is nervous, and a new problem with seizures. It's his new diagnosis of idiopathic epilepsy (epilepsy of an unknown origin) that allows him to acquire a therapy dog. His therapy dog arrives and Benji quickly learns that there is nothing normal about this dog. He's large (very large!) and he talks. Elvis and Benji become great friends. Elvis even helps Benji find his "pack" and Benji learns that maybe Billy, the school bully, has his own set of problems too. Not that this is an excuse for bullying Benji around, but maybe they have more in common than he realized.

I love both of these book so much I created novel studies to use with the 4th and 5th graders at my school. I feel that both novel studies would be appropriate for either grade, but I read Elvis and the Underdogs with my 4th graders and gave Wonder to our 5th grade teacher. Both classes really enjoyed the books and we able to teach a little character education at the same time!
